Pass Plus Courses

Now that you have passed your practical test, make sure that you apply for your full driving licence!!! If you do not claim your test pass within two years of the date of your test, your driving entitlement will be lost. You will then have to take and pass both parts of the driving test again to regain your driving licence.

Also make sure you take good care of your newly acquired licence because under the New Drivers Act, your driving licence is automatically revoked if you build up six or more penalty points within two years of passing your first driving test. This includes any penalty points you had before passing the test which are still valid. If this happen, in order to regain your full driving licence you must start all over again by reapplying for a provisional driving licence and passing the theory and practical driving tests again. Even after this, the penalty points will not be removed from your driving licence and will remain valid.

One way of protecting your valuable driving licence is to improve your driving skills by taking a Pass Plus course within 12 months of passing your driving test.

PASS PLUS is a practical course which means that you do not have to take another test. It is designed to improve the driving skills of newly qualified drivers and introduce new skills such as motorway driving. Statistics show that 20% of new drivers will have an accident during their first year of driving.

Pass Plus covers aspects not covered by the driving test with a minimum of 6 hours of practical in-car tuition on the following modules :-

  • Motorways
  • Dual carriageways
  • Night driving
  • Bad weather driving
  • Town driving
  • Country driving

at a cost of £160 for the basic 6 hours tuition.

Extra hours may be required at a further charge if the Pass Plus standard is not attained in each one of the modules. When you have successfully achieved the Pass Plus standard in all of the modules, I will complete the required form to be sent to the Driving Standards Agency who will issue you with your Pass Plus Certificate of Completion to show that you've successfully completed the course. Not only is there the advantage of gaining new skills and learning safer driving practices, but a significant discount is offered by insurance companies participating in the scheme.

Use these links for more information on Pass Plus and the insurance companies that support Pass Plus and offer discounts.

If you wish to take the pass plus course in your own car, you must ensure that you are fully insured and your car must have a valid tax disc and MOT test certificate where appropriate and you must produce these documents before starting the course. Without these documents, I will assume your car is not road worthy. Also for the safety of us both, your car must be mechanically sound as you will be driving on a wide variety of roads.
