Theory TestAs you are probably well aware there are two parts to the driving test, the theory test and the practical test. You will not even be able to book your practical test until you have passed the theory test. I recommend the following official publications in preparation for your theory test ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The theory test consists of multiple choice questions and Hazard Perception, you must reach the required pass mark in both modules at the same time to receive your theory test certificate. In the multiple choice questions you will now be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes and the pass mark is 43 out of 50. The number of questions was increased on 3rd September to allow greater coverage of subjects such as unlicensed and uninsured driving. The fee, time allowed to complete and pass mark was also increased in line with the longer test. The Hazard Perception part consists of 14 video clips which feature every day road scenes - all the clips will feature hazards of various types, vehicles, pedestrians, road conditions etc. In each clip there'll be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards. Candidates will be asked to respond, by pressing a button, as soon as they see a hazard developing which might cause them as the driver of the vehicle to take some action such as changing direction and speed. The pass mark for the car hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75. To find out details about the theory test. To find out details about the hazard perception test.
